One day, when I was a freshman in high school,
I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.
His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books..
I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?
He must really be a nerd."
I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.
They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.
His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him
He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes
My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.
As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. "
They really should get lives.
" He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!"
There was a big smile on his face.
It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived.
As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.
He said he ha d gone to private school before now.
I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.
We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.
He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.
I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends
He said yes.
We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.
Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.
I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!
" He just laughed and handed me half the books.
Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.
When we were seniors we began to think about college.
Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke.
I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.
He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship.
Kyle was valedictorian of our class.
I teased him all the time about being a nerd.
He had to prepare a speech for graduation.
I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak
Graduation day, I saw Kyle.
He looked great.
He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.
He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.
He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.
Boy, sometimes I was jealous!
Today was one of those days.
I could see that he was nervous about his speech.
So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"
He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.
" Thanks," he said.
As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began
"Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years.
Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends...
I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.
I am going to tell you a story."
I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.
He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.
He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.
He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.
"Thankfully, I was saved.
My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."
I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.
I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.
Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.
Never underestimate the power of your actions.
With one small gesture you can change a person's life.
For better or for worse.
God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way.
Look for God in others.
~"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."
There is no beginning or end.. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.~

CocoNut Is leaving Her "ComfORT" Zone..
Yo gals....
I am not sure if you gals know I have tender my resignation Last Mth...
tHIS nEWS mIGHT cOME hAS A Surprise or.. one that U might Have Foresee... (Yaya... I admit I have been Wanting to Leave from Like Day 1)
This Friday would be My Last Day at the place whicH I Have Stayed On for AlmoSt FouR YEars.. I actually feel sad that I am leaving this plc that I am so used to... Imagine I went through the temping, contract and perm "roles" throughout the years.. BUT guess.. it's really time for me to move on at one stage, to have a change of environment, to find my "passion" in work.. (not that i enjoy working.. I would of course prefer to sit at home be tai tai if not for the M factor)
However when i decided to tender my resignation, I actually felt more nervous than when I went for interviews.. As you all know.. I would always worry bout this & that, the fear of my bosses & peers' reactions keep flashing through my mind on the day before I tender..
Finally when I tender, the reactions that I received are sort OF a Mixture.. Some tink that it is silly of me to Leave (Reasons: Co doing well, U still studying, hav to start all over again) All these makes me ponder through whether I am too impulsive... U must be tinking: "aiyo.. coconut, why so indecisive??"
At that moment when the opportunity comes about, I really did not spend much time making up my decision.. Why isit that after the decision was made, the comments from others can affect me???????? Guess I am just not strong willed enough...
**convicing myself.. Once the decision is made, I should not regret. If u never put that 1st step out, you would never know what is in the outside world~!
Okay.. enough bout my resignation feelings... Toking how I spend my last 3 weeks in the co, mainly the 1 & 1/2 week I am busy with closing, then There are some Handovers that I need to brief through 'bout... On non-office hours, I am either at class or shopping for some farewell gifts for my colleagues.. My colleague are teasing me why isit that I seem to be more troubled over wat to buy than bout my handover or new work.. hahah. TT's me AGAIn.. Dunno how to prioritise...
I shall update u gals again once I have settled down in my new co!!
Ciao!!

The intimate part of my life
Hey Coco and Peanut, thanks for updating our BLOG. It’s nice to hear from you. Today, I shall share with ure an intimate part of my life. Woo hoo~
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Ta daH......Ta daH.......Ta daH.........Ta dah...........Ta dah..........Ta dah.......................Ta dah..........
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
My workstation. Okie, I admit that I got nothing to share or update unless you are interested to know I think I put on weight so I’m scared of the weighing scale as if they are cats, or that my mum is wearing a polka dot spaghetti-striped dress today or that Bagel has grown teeth (So now he's promoted to become Bread Talk, haha cos no teeth canot talk properly). (p.s all these three events are irrelevant and not interlinked together, so it’s not your fault if you catch no ball).
It's an intimate part of my life cos recently I have been hibernating at my workstation a lot more bcos Bagel is very noisy at hm, I mean really noisy. He keep saying ‘ahhhh’ even when he’s taking a nap. Sometimes, my mum will join in and say ‘kuay’ and therefore even more noisy.
FYI: ‘ahhh’=duck in hokkien and so ‘kuay’=chicken.
Ok back to my workstation: That day, I found a real estate magazine at my very ‘very neat and empty’ table. So, I asked my classmate, Mr 生花生 who put it at my table. He din answer my question. Instead, he tells me that he will never notice anything new at his ‘very neat but packed’ table cos it’s all filled with books and duno what other stuffs. I think that he’s just trying to be funny, but as I typed this, I realize that I wrote it in such a way as if he’s trying to be sarcastic. Haha. Sorry, lousy writer.
All in all, if you wanna describe my workstation as a person, it really has no 特色, haiz. I sheepily tried to take a pic of my classmate’s workstation. This is how it looks like. I counted: There's 3 stacks of papers+books, taller than the the A4 ring file. There's more on the other side. There's even a luggage under her table. See, she even has some poster, so got "味道".

I actually wanna do this post earlier but she’s always there before me. Then when I wanna send this pic from my hp to my laptop thru Bluetooth, I kept thinking that it will be sent to her laptop. If that is the case, then she will think that there’s a pervert eyeing her in our office. And as I was thinking about all these things, I can’t help grinning to myself. Then, I try to pretend that I’m surfing some funny sites, so that my classmates would not think I’m siao laughing to myself.P.S I din post any pic of my workstation, bcos there’s really nothing on it, so it looks like I’m taking pic of a piece of wood. A piece of wood sounds so err….Maybe I should put some plants or crystals on my table to change the fengshui. This is a silly post bcos it has been a silly year, I think I really ‘fan tai sui’. Santa Claus, I’m waiting for you.
*My prof just msg me to go her office as i'm about to click the publish button, I hate my hp*

For days which I go class, I come back will become a couch potato.. haha. Guess my life is quite BORING!!! I need some excitement!!

Meaningful life
Thanks donut for sharing another thing about you that allows us to know u better! (^^,)
Frankly, i always tot that ur dream is to become famous, successful or rich..cos u like to read motivational books. But i remember once u said that its because you wan to know what how those successful people think. I tot to myself maybe because you are a thinker. And cos i have never really ask, so i duno if it was your dream to be successful and maybe famous and rich. But i'm glad that you have realise someting meaningful from the book that u have mentioned. I guess not all people realise the simple truth "living life to the fullest". Actually Jesus said it.
"The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

~John 10:9-10~
Jesus came to the world to give us life. He didn't come to bring us rules, or judgement, or fear, or work. Jesus came to give us life in its fullest form.
To me living life to the fullest not only include doing things that I enjoy, but also things like knowing God more, knowing people around me more, having a deeper relationship with my friends and family, being a blessing to the people around me, impacting peoples' lives, sharing the good news of Jesus to people, restoring broken relationships, discovering my weakness and overcoming it, using the strengths and talents that God has given me for a good purpose... in fact as i grow older, i realise that there are many things that i wan to do... but there may not be enough time. To cherish the time we have now is really sumtin crucial. who knows, i may not have much time left..
Glad that all of us have been reminded of this simple truth. So... whether we go to work or to school, remember to do ur best. When we talk to our parents, remember to respect them instead of quarrel with them. When we see a friend, smile at them or talk to them. In essence, my view is that we should be thankful for this life and live a good one with it, one with no regrets. (^^,)

Warning: this is a serious post and a long one indeed
I never really told anyone why i decide to extend my studies.
My usual answers to my prof: I have a passion for research, wahaha and they believe me. (Not the sense of satisfaction that the research paper would get an award, but the nature of research, bcos it's otot- own time own target,I really really like this alot, so you see i'm not really lying to them.)
My usual answers to my friends: I don't like to work. They think that i'm just trying to 逃避现实 . But i secretly think otherwise.
Peixian was the first person to know the underlying reason behind this decision. Sadly, she doesn't appreciate my stand. She told me that she's very sad recently bcos all her friends earns alot but with her peanut(i din mean to insult pea, really) paycheck, she needs 15 years in order to put a downpayment for a posh condo at nassim road. She tells me that since young she always know that she will be rich even though she duno how. And she says all the billionaire quoted that in their book that they know they will be rich. But I wanted to tell her that millions and millions of participants for American Idol also says that since young, they know they will be a star, but only one can make their dreams come true. But I didn't want to shatter her dreams. Instead, I told her that I'm very contented with the allowance each mth and I shared with her the underlying reason to extend my research studies, but she looked sadly at me with pity that I have drawn myself to such a low end. I have always thought that we take the same stand in life but i guess I have changed my perspective while she has strengthen hers. I really really hope that she will make it big one day, bcos she's a great girl by nature and I dun like my friends to be sad.
My motiviation came from this book called: The monk and the riddle. I din read the whole book but i think i got the gist of the book. Rich dad recommend this book, so i guess it should have been some motivation books on the route to money freedom, but ironically, it had a reverse effect on me.
My holy Bible

In this book, the author emphasis that we humans always split their life into two parts: the first part is before we retire. During this period, we will work our ass off to earn buckets of money (anyway, do they count money like this?). Minimum time and allowance is given to do the things they enjoyed during this period. Recall how many times, we tell ourself that we will give ourself a break soon after all the work is done and that 'soon' never really came. After reading this book, I reflected on my life and i realised that I would have leave my life in vain should I leave this world at the moment. Because for all my life, I'm too caught up with my studies and work and thinking of how to be richie rich so that I can retire at 40 and then enjoy all the things i want to. But the truth is, I may not leave past 40, i may or may not. The point is that we shouldn't split our life into two parts, cos *touch wood but you never know where the ending is. Xu wei lun's incident strengthen this belief of mine, I hope she has read this bk also and made it part of her life motto. Anyway, personally i think she has not live her life in vain cos there's so many people that loved her and will always do and her death has woken up so many people whom previously think they got all the time in the world.
And so I decide to incorporate things that I enjoy doing into my everday life. I learnt new skills that I thought I would only have learnt when I retired. I told pea I wanted to make use of these two years to enjoy the things i want to do, she says i'm only doing one at the moment, i think she's refering to my keyboard class. Haha doing things that I like doesn't mean just taking up new courses. It can be anything I want actually, so long as it makes me happy, it even includes the opportunity to take a nap, watch more tv and playing with Bagel. The point is to be happy and this to me is living life to the fullest. Cramping all your timetable with classes and activites is merely making people think that you are living your life to the fullest, but if it makes you happy, then go ahead. If not, then do something about it. There's no point in achieving alot through other people's eyes, when in fact you are not enjoying what ure doing.
My dear friend,
This post is not to urge you to quit your job tomorrow, haha. Neither am I encouraging you to become a nun to serve people's welfare or to sign up for voluntary mission to the third world countries. (but you can go if it makes you happy, haha) Rather, I hope that out of your busy schedule, each of you would spend more time doing things you enjoy, just anything that you like even if to other people, it can be rather meaningless stuffs. Bcos it is your life, so you define it the way you want it to be- this to me is living life to the fullest. Yo, i hope each of us can post and share our perspective in life so that we can learn and help each other attain a new high level at every period of our life.

Donut House Joke of the Day~
Recently I have got a new job position, which is to be a BA2. *coughs* ahem ahem… babysitter (which is suppose to be an assistant as well)’s assistant. My senior gave me inspiration for this new position name cos she claims to be a RA2 (research assistant’s assistant).
Of course, we have to bring in the main character…the baby. Here you go:

His name is Bagel. My mum gave him this nick and everyone including my mum’s friends call him Bagel. (I can hear some wows at this point in time, I know it is such a cute an adorable name but no she doesn’t know English. Hehe she calls him that in Hokkien…’jiam tao lou di’ as in the one you order with your curry chicken). The name was born cos Bagel got a long and pointed head in the shape of ‘jiam tao lou di’. Anyway, I will call him Bagel in future cos he really dun deserve such a funny name, What jiam tao lou di???
Joke 1:
One day, my mum’s friend calls and I picked up the phone while carrying Bagel (I’m a responsible BA2 ok ).
Mum’s fren: Hello, 你妈妈呢?
Me: 在厠所.
Mum’s fren: Then ‘jiam tao lou di’ 在哪里?
Me: 我在抱 ‘jiam tao lou di’.
Then both of us realize this conversation is very funny and we start to laugh on the phone.
Joke 2:
Oh by the way I’m a phone operator also because I’m usually the one at home, so I will record down who calls who. Anyway last Sunday, my mum came back after her mj session, She opens my bedroom door; I was inside the room.
Mum the joker: 刚才,谁打给我?
Me the joker’s daughter: Ah boy 的妈妈.
Mum the joker: huh, 怎么办? 不知道是不是他生 chicken chop leh. (She wana say chicken pox cos Bagel’s brother is having chicken pox now).
Still got a lot more, but I forgot them already, hope this post would brgithen up everyone’s day!
